Who is Karch? All American. Who is Shojis? Hawai'i fans and you people who are also complaining at my comments on Shoji. I told you what is up, and you complain. What's up with you? Smaller fans!

  2. Robin:

I think I speak for most...

    ^ ???

  3. Cindy Luis:

    2. agree.

  4. 1988 ("circles"):

    My guess(es):

Karch is one who played for UCLA?? Journalistic coverage bodes well for him in Hawaii, despite it all. ;-)
The USA HC has previously had MUCH--LOUSY--things to say about UH.

I'd also imagine that the lead sports journalist in Hawaii gets the preferred USAV Cup seating per expenses paid for by her own newspaper...must be nice!!!

Re: 1. And 4. Take your meds please!!!

  6. Cindy Luis:

    4. I don't get the preferred seating. the press table is for working media. get your facts straight.
Someone had asked about what one got with the package. just passing along the info.
that Kiraly went to UCLA has no bearing on coverage. He is the head coach of Team USA and he will be interviewed. As will the Brazilian coach and players from both teams.

  7. Brandon:

Since alcohol is server to the VIP, do you have to be 21. Or is the same like regular seating where you just don't have to "purchase" (by purchase I mean drink since it's complementary) It

  8. Cindy Luis:

Having never been in the VIP section, I don't know but I'm assuming the legal drinking age is enforced.

  9. Brandon:

Oh I know that. But I mean like can you still purchase VIP tickets if you're under 21 and ignore the alcohol. Or is it like a bar where you gotta be 21 to go in.

Sorry if that's what you answered. It sounded like you thought I was talking about actual drinking that's why and not the VIP tickets It self.

  10. Cindy Luis:

    10. sorry, I don't know. I've seen under 21 people in the VIP area before.
Maybe call the ticket office for clarification; 956-7655. press 7 to talk to a real person.

  11. volleyball fan:

I'm amazed that people argue over such trivia as beer drinking. This whole VIP stuff is just ego boosting, nothing more and I disparage the whole thing. I wouldn't want a courtside seat anyway since it's too close to the court and one could be accidentally hit by an errant ball. If I wanted to I could talk with the coach any time. It's no big deal.

I'm surprised that some volleyball fans have little or no knowledge about Karch Kiraly named the Player of the Century. He's the only USA player to have won three Olympic golds in both indoor volleyball (1984 & 1988) and beach (1992). He is the Michael Jordan of volleyball. I was able to talk with him freely in the past as I showed genuine interest both in volleyball and his family history. His father and my mother were born in the same city. I found him humble and approachable. He certainly doesn't have a big ego. Suffice to be polite and genuine, that's all.

As for no TV in that match, I believe that if enough people email USA Volleyball and request online broadcast (if not live, then at least replay), they may accede to our wishes. If anyone is interested in writing let me know and I'll provide an email contact. For now I inquired USAVB to find out exactly whom to contact about this.

A person can have a drawer full of gold medals....from various sports...
Does not make him/her a good n successful coach...
    JUST SAYING

Gd luck to USA n coach....

It is worth $15o.oo if u have it n can afford it.

  13. Brandon:

Who argues about beer drinking? I'm sure me and Cindy didn't. So don't know where you got that from

  14. Cindy Luis:

    11. no one was arguing about beer drinking.
I am surprised that there is no TV scheduled. Perhaps that will change.
They've been streaming live for other events, including today's Pan Am Cup.

  15. Cindy Luis:

    12. true. but the U.S. women have never won an Olympic gold medal under any coach.
We'll see how Kiraly does in his first stint as head coach in 2016. U.S. continues to be ranked No. 2 in the world, behind Brazil.

  16. Cindy Luis:

    11. as for contacting USAV with a request, senior manager of communications is Bill Kauffman bill.kauffman@usav.org.
believe he is traveling with one of the teams to Poland at the moment. the World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball Championships.

  17. man eating apple:

Yeah, you guys should really see about getting USA volleyball on TV. I see a couple of the sports channels that night are showing Poker, and one is showing motorcycle racing. Really reflects badly on volleyball that the #1 vs #2 teams in the world don't even get on TV. Guess people are more interested in Duck Dynasty marathons than these volleyball players. I'm just stating the facts.

Whoever is in charge of expanding the reach of volleyball in America, is really not doing their job.

I'm not surprised to see "volleyball fan" getting confused about what people are trying to discuss here. Last time I mentioned getting this volleyball match on TV, his "brain" went haywire and he started talking about UH volleyball being on OC16. Volleyball is bigger than Hawaii.

  18. Cindy Luis:

There seems to be two discussions going on here.
One is getting the USA-Brazil matches televised in Hawaii.
    17. you're discussing it nationally. The World League matches have been NBCSports on DirecTV but that channel not carried on Oceanic. The World League replays have been on Oceanic 211 which is Universal Sports.
As for what people are more interested in, it's the networks making the decisions, not the viewers.
