Moving the discussion here from another thread and clarifying.

Friday's match not televised. Oceanic is doing Baseball vs. UCI

Saturday's match is televised on OC-16

UH says live streaming both nights but if you go to ocsports.tv, it will only be on Saturday

Radio both nights on 1500-AM nbcsportsradiohawaii.com

Why are they showing baseball? 14-13 record in the season is hardly a inspirational season. Their best player is Marc Flores 6-5 tall. He has 2 homeruns in the season and maybe hoping to build on the homerun list. UH men's volleyball must win 2 games to be in the hunt for the MPSF playoffs. What else is there?

  2. Tiki808:

TV coverage and news: I think the talk of the town is how much of it can they show. For example, no one is keeping up with Rich Miano at Kaiser because he's not with UH football anymore. Maybe he's hurt. TV appearances and personal appearances would go a long way. Aside from Kirk Gouveiau, he may be a forgotten man. Men's volleyball could use this same idea. It would go a long way.

  3. FormerlyWarriorfan:

There's plenty of baseball season left to televise some of their games, this is the end of volleyball season and its BY freaking U!!!

  4. FormerlyWarriorfan:

And WOW thank you Northridge for beating UCLA in five. Now the warriors just need to take care of business.

  5. hossana:

To Tiki 808: The UH baseball team took 2/3 games from a team that was ranked 10th or 15th last weekend pending on what polls you saw pounding out 44 hits in the process and this week they play another ranked team. The 14-13 record is not indicative of the team's status in BW standings so get a life....the volleyball game will be televised sat. nite so at least we get to see the baseball and volleyball games as you can't please everyone like yourself......

  6. Cindy Luis:

    2. not really sure what you mean about not keeping up with MIano. think it was big news that he's quitting Kaiser.
    3. I agree that there is a lot of baseball left so why not show both of the final vb home matches.
You are welcome to call OC16. it's their business decision for whatever reason.
    4. really good win by CSUN tonight, helping UH stay alive.

  7. Ki:

No use crying over spilled milk. Perfect opportunity for people to head on down to the SSC to watch what seems to be critical matches for the Rainbow Warrior Volleyball team. They're going to need the fan support in the arena when they take on a very good BYU team. Go Bows!!

  8. setaone:

Yes, too bad that Oceanic can't show both vb games as there is at least a month of baseball left. Maybe the viewship is better for baseball?

As for if Hawaii News Now had the contract.....they probably could show simultaneous events on different stations, but that would mean at least two sets of equipment, production crews, and anything else that is required to show a live sporting event.

  9. formerlywarriorfan:

There are 15 baseball home games left for UH with over a month and a half of the season over!!!!!
UH mens volleyball had 15 home matches ALL Season. Shame on OCSports for deciding to televise a meaningless baseball game instead of UH warrior volleyball fighting for the playoffs against the top ranked team in conference!!!! SHAME !

  10. 'ohanaInBellingham:

Thank you for clarifying the coverage, Cindy!

    8. don't know about better viewership for either sport. but guess it's their way of trying to appease the fans of both by giving them one game each.
no idea if HNN could do it other than do have access to two channels. but, again, you didn't see KFVE doing it when they also had access to two channels.. likely an equipment decision. as well as playing two broadcast crews. I do know that Leahey once told me that, for example they were set up for baseball and it was going to get rained out, it wasn't simply a matter of moving the truck to go over and do volleyball.
    9. Schedule was made months ago. No one could predict that this series would have UH trying to stay in the playoff hunt. However, they were aware that these were the final two home games.
not like they haven't done it earlier this season when not televising men's volleyball in lieu of another sport
