UH-UOP rewind

this was my web story

Wade said on the radio that he wasn't too concerned about Sedore's ankle, said  he came back out of the locker room and looked to be fine. They have a big break in playing dates, don't play again until April 4-5 vs. BYU

Not sure why Zarkovic didn't play. I'm sure Stephen will find out. First time this season Siki didn't start.

Anyway:

Senior hitter Johann Timmer put down a career-high 15 kills and junior middle Taylor Averill added 12 with just one error as No. 11 Hawaii swept Pacific 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 on Tuesday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match.

It was the final meeting between the two schools as UOP will drop its program after this season.

The Rainbow Warriors (13-10, 11-9 MPSF) won their fourth road match of the season, one more than they did in all of last season when going 3-10. Hawaii had seven aces and just six service errors, and outblocked the Tigers 8.5-6.in 87 minutes at the Spanos Center.

Junior opposite Brook Sedore had eight kills before leaving midway through Set 2 with an apparent ankle sprain. He did not return.

"Definitely an ankle but it didn't appear too serious," Hawaii coach Charlie Wade said of Sedore. "He'll have some time to rest and get ready for our next matches with BYU (April 4 and 5)."

Hawaii used 13 of the 14 on its travel roster. Sophomore Siki Zarkovic, who had started all previous 22 matches, did not play.

Pacific (2-19, 1-17) was led by Tommy Carmody's nine kills.

so as it stands now. UH is 11-9, half-game behind UCI (11-8) and USC (11-8)
Stafnord and UCLA at 11-7, UH only has tiebreak on the Bruins

Glad they took care of business, Hope Brook is ready to go for BYU. Happy for Timmer.

If Wade comes back, (I still hope he does not)

I hope he goes after Pacific middle Tommy Carmody, he's putting up really good numbers for them (especially blocking wise) and is only a junior so he has another year.
Not sure why Kupono Fey aint playing more especially against the weaker teams, talk about a wasted year. It has become obvious he and Mol, should have redshirted. Not sure what Wade and co are doing here ,they both barely played all season..

  3. Cindy Luis:

kind of a waste to take a junior for one year. unless he's really an impact player. There's a reason he's at UOP, and that could be academics.
thought Blane said most of the players found places but at least one junior is retiring and going to stay and get his degree next year.
mol and fey are freshmen with a number of upper clansmen ahead of them.
Weren't you the one who said they should play the underclassmen for experience and now you say they should have redshirted them instead of wasting the year?

  4. Brandon.:

While I disagree with a lot of Charlie's coaching ideas, I don't see why he gets so much hate. Is he really that bad?

  5. FormerlyWarriorfan:

I don't hate Wade, I just am tired of mediocrity. His record after his first year is 46- 50, which is not good.

    3. Well exactly I want them to play not sit around on the bench not getting any better, especially when senior players like Olsen continue to under perform.

  6. FormerlyWarriorfan:

    3. The thing I really like about Carmody is he is averaging something like 1. 5 blocks per set, leading the MPSF. I'd take that over Holt no offense to him.
Unless freshmen Luke Owen comes in and is a nice surprise.

  7. volleyball fan:

Maybe Zarkowich didn't play today because yesterday he was the only one hitting negative. Sounds like he's in a slump or he's not feeling well or both.

So now the Rainbow Warriors have a two-week, two-day hiatus. See you there for the BYU match.

  8. jmy:

I know it's still a month away, but it would be an interesting scenario if both BYU & Loyola-Chicago lost their respective conference tournaments...I wonder who would get the at-large...

  9. Cindy Luis:

It's a six-team tournament starting this year. top 2 seeds get byes.

  10. Cindy Luis:

    6. Carmody is the only junior on UOP. I believe he's the one Kauwe spoke about when saying he would be retiring and finishing his engineering degree.

  11. vballfreak808:

Sand Team ranked #3 in today's poll. USC at #2 and Nebraska at #8

  12. LC:

How does an 0-0 team get ranked #8 ? Oh wait it's Nebraska.

I was hoping that the SA didn't even mention Jane in any articles while she is here.

  13. Brandon.:

    12. Why wouldn't they? Yeah jane had a rocky time at UH, but she still played for the wahine. Of course they will bring her up. Also considering she's a great beach player as well

  14. vballfreak808:

Well Cook and Tiegs win set one easily 21-11 against Croson and Kingdon

Urban and Chow win set one 21-13

  15. Brandon.:

How's tiegs doing? Is her back still bothering her or does she look fine playing?

  16. Ki:

    Hawaii SWEEPS Arizona (5-0).

  17. Brandon.:

Now let's see who the real number two is when they play usc. They have the skills and fire power to beat them

  18. uhfan:

    Tiegs/Cooks & Taylor/Spieler both take the first set against USC 21-18 & 21-9

  19. Brandon.:

Come on girls! You can do this!

  20. uhfan:

    Tiegs/Cook & Taylor/Spieler drop the second set 22-25(typo probably and meant 24) & 19-22. Long/Long take first set 22-20

  21. uhfan:

    20-22 I meant for Long/Longo

  22. uhfan:

    Chow/Urban fall in 2 sets

  23. vballfreak808:

    Tiegs/Cook take third 15-12

  24. vballfreak808:

    Long/Longo win 22-20, 25-23

  25. vballfreak808:

    Spieler/Taylor lose third set 13-15

    Hawaii loses 3-2

  26. Brandon.:

Aww too bad. Good fight bows! It was a close match and it looks like both sides are equally matched

  27. FormerlyWarriorfan:

Bet you uh takes the rematch!

  28. FormerlyWarriorfan:

keep in mind usc loses four significant players for next year, uh just one(cook)

  29. mei mei:

thanks for all the score updates!
