Two five-set losses led to Hawaii dropping five places in today's AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Rainbow Wahine (16-4, 5-3 Big West) lost to both Cal State Northridge and UC Davis on the road last week, losing consecutive conference matches for the first time since 1993. It is also the first time since 1994 that Hawaii has lost three matches in conference play.

The top six teams remained the same, led by Texas (15-2), which received 43 of the 60 first-place votes. Penn State (18-2, 11 votes) was second followed by Washington (17-1, 6 votes), USC (18-3), Florida (20-2) and Stanford (15-4).

Missouri (25-0) jumped four spots to No. 7 while San Diego (17-3) moved up a spot to No. 8. Rounding out the Top 10 were Colorado State (19-0) and Minnesota (19-4).

And we all know any more losses and it (rank) will be high teens or low 20's. Auwe! Rise up and show your 'real' stuff Wahine. Go Wahine!

Haven't dropped too much in this rankings. We'll see if this holds for the far more important RPI. I think Hawaii will not fall far, so all the apocalyptic predictions of Hawaii's fans will be overstated. For example, the prediction that Hawaii might not even make the NCAA tourney is absurd.

  3. LC:

    # 15 in new RPI ranking .

If Hawaii remains #15, there is still a chance for hosting. However, given the weakness of Big West's conference, maintaining that position will be difficult, especially after playing winless Riverside. However, there is still hope.

If Hawaii makes it to the post season....they're traveling for a road match!

Well, I feared worse like #20. So #13 was a pleasant surprise for me. It's still in the top 16, although the RPI that counts is getting close to 16 now.
