I just saw on twitter that Kelsi Delgado commits to UH beach volleyball, she's a class of 2013.
Coach Wong is stacking a ton of talent for next year.

WF, Wong had told me last weekend he was very pleased with how recruiting was going and that the program was progressing faster than expeted. Delgado is a good get.

Too bad Wong cant concentrate on indoor recruiting as much as he is on sand recruiting

Cindy.. Does Robyn Ah Mow-Santos assist with recruiting?
April 3rd, 2013 at 7:50 am
Ah-Mow Santos does. Wong does a lot of the road recruiting, targeting players.
UH fan, don't know why you say that. Do you have Wong's travel itineraries and know how much time he spends on either?
The recruiting seasons are different and he is able to do both, and sometimes on the same trip, as he did last year at the sand nationals. A lot of the sand recruiting is done during the DEAD period for indoor.
They only have 4 scholarships for sand as opposed to 12 for indoor. He spends more time on the indoor team.
With Tiegs redshirting and Delgado committing he doesn't need much, if anything, for 2014.
Focus now will be on the JOs and other summer tournaments for indoor

I was just wondering with Robyn's stint playing over seas might give her some connections with foreign recruits
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:00 am
She does have connections as do other former Wahine who are still in Europe such as Ljungquist, Bown. Shoji has been looking over there. The problem always is with players who have been in the club system who could be considered 'pro' by NCAA standards.

With Tiegs, Rooks, Shinn, Delgado and Karissa Cook, UH could use it's best duo this season Riggs/Longo in flights 4 or 5 next season.
April 3rd, 2013 at 2:12 pm
Warriorfan: I agree, Riggs/Longo are the best duo this season, however, I'm not sure either Riggs or Longo will "settle" for flight 4 or 5 next season. Those two have a lot of fight, competitiveness and passion on the court. Don't let their height fool you ... they have beat duo's with several inches on them with no problem and SW has moved them up and down in flights all season long. Shows that SW has confidence in this pair. There's something about this pair that works!!! BTW I did hear that both were asked at one time or another to pair up with Croson. Neither one took the bait. They know a good thing when they see it happening, no need to make a change.

Cindy and anyone, are the NCAA rules still the same for the status of players receiving sand scholarships? That they cannot play indoors for two seasons by receiving sand scholarships? Just thinking that more D1 programs are getting into sand programs, that they (NCAA) might let up on the ruling to possibly one season instead of two.
April 3rd, 2013 at 10:59 pm
They keep changing the rules so I don't know of the current status. But to be honest, you have to think of the student-athlete. as the sand game grows, there will be more competitions. Hard to play 2 sports in college. Think you'll see more players doing sand-only soon.

What made me ask that is after watching Kelsi Delgado's indoor video, she has the skills to contribute to the indoor from fall of 2014 after 7 players use their eligibility after fall 2013. Of course they are other players who are committed to sand you could say the same of like Hannah Rooks. Yes more difficult to play two sports as a student/athlete, but the upside is that indoors and sand seasons do not overlap, as what Kalei is doing with basketball.
